Stanley C. Pelkey, Ph.D. 

I have composed extensively for piano, organ, and voice and have a growing body of chamber music (for strings, winds, brass, and mixed ensembles). I have also written some electronic music.

Recent Performance Projects and Presentations:
* Public premieres of two original choral cantatas (with instrumental ensembles) in Danville, Kentucky (June 2024
and December 2025). 


* Recording session for my "Chamber Concerto" at Sound of Cypress Studios in

Tallahassee, Florida (May 1, 2018).

* Performance of original incidental music for readings of children's literature for the "Libraries Rock!" program, Cape Girardeau Public Library, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri (June 16, 2018).

* Research papers at various professional conferences, including the College Music Society (2018, 2019, 2020), the Society for American Music (2019, 2020), the North American British Music Studies Association (2020), the Northeast Popular Culture Association (2024, 2025), and the Wesleyan Theological Society (2025, 2026).

* Entrepreneurship presentations and duo recital, Southeast Missouri State University (January 16-19, 2019).



  • I have spent 27 years in the classroom working with undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students.
  • I have taught all levels of music history, undergraduate courses in world music and music theory,  undergraduate and graduate courses in film / screen media and music, and doctoral-level research methods. I have also taught hundreds of students how to develop resumes, write cover letters, interview, and prepare professional marketing materials. 
  • My scholarship has been published in peer-reviewed journals and by leading academic publishers, and I have presented papers at over fifty academic conferences around the world.
  • I regularly review scholarly books and serve as a peer reviewer for book proposals and journal articles. 
  • As an academic leader, I thrive on developing new programs and new approaches to marketing.
  • I continue to develop new skills and master new tools and software to enhance my effectiveness as a leader, colleague, scholar, and content provider. ​
  • I am an effective writer and appreciate the importance of social media communications and marketing.
